The stage is set for the Carpenters Finance Labasa Sanatan Soccer tournament, which kicks-off at Subrail Park, Labasa tomorrow.

Already 26 teams have registered to participate as the tournament coincides with the annual event of the Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sahba Fiji.

Labasa Sanatan tournament chairman Mor Singh said, the tournament is going to be from July 16-24.

“Teams that have been confirmed are from Labasa, Savusavu and Dreketi,” he said.

Singh said the Cup winner would get a trophy and $2000 while the runners up would pocket $900. Teams reaching the Cup semifinals will also receive a trophy and $300 each.

“Last year the tournament was not held due to some unforeseen circumstances but however, we are happy to hold one this year.

“One of the main objectives of the tournament is to bring together the Sanatanies of Vanua Levu so that the prestige of the holy religion is appreciated.

“Also to teach and promote the values of Sanatan Dharam to the younger generation and to encourage future generations to understand, uphold and practice the Hindu faith.”

Singh thanked Sarju Prasad, all committee members and sponsors for their support and is hopeful that the tournament would be a success.

“The tournament will start with a float procession from Y-Corner to Subrail Park at 1pm on Saturday,” he added.
