The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is pleased with Labasa Town Council’s immediate action in addressing complaints and cleaning up Qiotoga Creek.

Shiri Guru Nanak Primary School situated beside the creek in Labasa wrote a letter to the Ministry of Health to look into the various problems associated with it.

Ministry of Health and Medical Services Assistant Minister Veena Bhatnagar said when it rained, the creek over flowed with debris and entered the school property.

“We contacted the Labasa Town Council and they immediately undertook a short term solution,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

The Labasa Town Council immediately sent workers who cleaned up the debris and creek.

“This is because the creek is situated beside two primary schools (Shiri Guru Nanak Primary and St Mary’s Primary School) some private properties and villages.

“We are very appreciative of the fact that various stakeholders have joined hand to solve the health hazard.”

Encouraging work of intern doctors

Ms Bhatnagar came out in strong support of the intern doctors after some patients refused to be attended by these trainee doctors at the Labasa Hospital.

“With regards to the intern doctors I would like to urge the public not to be judgemental. They are working under the supervision of senior doctors.

“I have had many meeting with families who complained about our facilities and medical professionals at various hospitals and health centres,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

Yadua Nursing Station praised

Ms Bhatnagar has also applauded the nurse managing the nursing station at Yadua Island.

“There are about 199 people on the island and they all highly praised the effort put up by our nurse,” Ms Bhatnagar said. SHRATIKA NAIDU
