Fiji Football Association is happy with the progress of the Vodafone Under-17 Youth League as they go into their third round of competition tomorrow.

Fiji FA media liaison officer Avikash Chand said they are impressed with the teams and the level of football displayed.

“It has been a very good competition and we can see the interest from the players has really grown, so it is a good start for the Under-17 Youth League,” Chand said.

“It is definitely a success and even though we have finished the second round and moving on to the third, we can see a major improvement in the way the game is played.

“The players are playing more structured football and they have really come into this tournament prepared.

“This is a good development platform for the boys and given that everything is fully funded the players and coaches can just focus on development.

“Everything from equipment, jerseys, travelling expenses and even their meals are provided for.”

Rewa and Tailevu/Naitaisiri have proved to be the stronger teams in the competition but Chand says, all matches have proven to be tough.

“The competition has grown in every match and it is getting tougher with each round being played.

“It has been very interesting and good to see the players are taking this seriously and actually perform really well.

“The secondary school competition is coming up so we are hoping that does not affect the players but otherwise it has been a good competition and we look forward to more action this weekend.”
