The Consumer Council of Fiji had registered 14,825 complaints worth $24.6million and resolved 10,699 complaints, giving back consumers some $13.3m from January 2009 to 31 May 2016.
This was highlighted by Council chief executive officer Premila Kumar during the launch of the National Consumer Helpline at the Tanoa Plaza Hotel in Suva on Thursday.
Ms Kumar said they expected complaints figures to go up after the launch of the helpline.
“Our resources will be constrained but my team stands ready to assist each caller in a timely manner,” she said.
This reflected the effective mediation conducted by the council.
