FNU Fine Arts Students To Compete For Castaway Island 50th Birthday Contest

Fiji National University Fine Arts Department students will compete for FJ$750 and two nights on Castaway Island to design a unique sulu and sarong.
This is done to commemorate Castaway Island, Fiji Resort’s 50th birthday.
The head of FNU’s Graphic Arts and Design Department, Joseph Lavulo, said the design could incorporate elements of the resort’s logo.
This, he said, could be representative of the environment and culture of the Mamanuca Islands.
“This type of client-industry collaboration is what students need to enhance and practise the skills taught and trained in our design programs,” Mr Lavulo said.
The winning design will decorate sarong and sulus which will be given to all guests and staff at Castaway Island throughout November.
This will be worn at a formal VIP cocktail event on November 18 to officially celebrate the island’s milestone anniversary.
The resort management in conjunction with Mr Lavulo will short-list the final three designs from which the winner will be chosen.
The winner will receive $750 plus two nights’ accommodation for two at Castaway Island during November as well as references and media exposure for their portfolio.
Entries must be submitted by August 1 with the winner to be announced on September 15.
