Wai Kun Seeto celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday. Over 400 guests attended the celebrations.

His eldest son David Seeto travelled from Auckland, New Zealand, to be with his Mum.

He told her to treasure this historical occasion.

Mrs Seeto was born on July 16th, 1916 in South China. She married the late Kee Seeto in 1937 and had two sons and a daughter.

Mr Seeto heard about Fiji and was keen to make a living here. He moved here in 1948.

Mrs Seeto and young David followed suit in 1956.  Mr Kee Seeto passed away in 1988.

“My mother has been my role model ever since I came to know about life. She had been very strong and held herself up while my father was in Fiji to earn money for me and my mother to come to Fiji. My family has faced a tough life so that’s why they moved to Fiji to have a better life,” David Seeto recalls.

“My mother had helped my father in a small canteen for approximately two years and from there our business grew. She is a very conservative woman and always pushes us for our own betterment. She instructs us the good things for us and our children.

“Seeing my mother reach the 100th mark of age is unbelievable. She does not have any medical health problems except she fell once and injured her limbs. But that does not stop her from doing the things she loves,” Mr Seeto said.

At the birthday celebrations on Saturday, guests were treated to four different cuisines. Yesterday close family members had lunch at her residence in Suva.
