A 45-year-old woman and her three-year-old child who were involved in a fatal accident at Varavu, Ba, over the weekend are now in a stable condition at the Lautoka Hospital.

Sarita and two children, Amos, 3; and Sylvia, 1; survived the crash and Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the second child had been discharged.

47-year-old Atish Varma, who was driving the family back home, was killed instantly by an oncoming vehicle driven by a 38-year-old driver.

Police said the vehicle “burst its tyres causing the vehicle to veer onto the opposite lane and collided with Mr Varma’s vehicle” which killed him instantly on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said yesterday: “A 47-year-old man died in the accident but we have to wait for the post mortem result.”

The driver who was involved in the fatal accident has been questioned and released.

The road death toll currently stands at 27 compared to 34 for same period last year.
