Late Application, Naulu Misses Olympics

Late submission of Adi Cakobau School student Makereta Naulu application was the reason why she missed out on making it to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This was confirmed by Athletics Fiji team manager to Rio, Joe Rodan Junior.
After clocking 11.9 seconds in the 100 metres final of the Melanesian Athletics Championship two weeks ago, her name was given in for consideration by Athletics Fiji and endorsed by FASANOC. However, it was rejected by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
“This is because they had missed the deadline,” Rodan Junior said.
“The deadline was on the sixth of July and the 100m for the Melanesian Games was on July 7 and 8.”
Rodan Jnr said American based Sisilia Seavula got the nod because of the consistency of her performance.
“Makereta Naulu is young it was never in her plan to go for the Olympics but she ran the fastest time that’s why we had put it in for consideration. “
She’s young and we think she has good talent that will develop for the future as she’s under the age of 18,” he added.
