A Lautoka man  suffered minor burns when he saved his family from their burning home yesterday morning.

Seremaia Ratumaitoma, 23, said he had to act swiftly to rush his family outside as fire started to engulf their three bedroom house in Rifle Range, Lautoka.

He said: “I woke up in the morning at around 8am and saw the last room of our house already on fire. I rushed my mother and three siblings outside quickly. Then I hurried back to check if there was anyone else left inside. When I was going in I burned my hand,” Mr Ratumaitoma said.

He said his family had nothing left but the clothes they were wearing.

“Everything is gone including our mobile phones and we cannot contact anyone. Our house is completely destroyed,” he said.

Mr Ratumaitoma said his mother would make arrangements for their accommodation, because they were clueless on what to do next.

A neighbour called the National Fire Authority officers who were able to stop the fire from spreading to the other houses.
