Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto says no foreign assistance will be sought for Fiji Navy Ship Kiro which ran aground at Cakauyawa reef near Makuluva Island last Friday.

He said investigations have started onto how the boat ended up on the reef.

“A salvage boat will be taken out on Friday or Saturday depending on the high tide,” he said.

“Right now we are still trying to assess the damages of the hull before we attempt to pull it out.”

Rear Admiral Naipoto said the damage would determine how long it would take to salvage the ship.
