Rape accused Parmendra Maharaj was granted bail yesterday by the High Court in Suva.

Justice Vincent Perera granted bus driver Maharaj a surety bail of $1000. Defence lawyer Mohammed Afzal Khan presented two sureties.

With the bail order Maharaj is to report to the Navua Police Station every Monday from July 25 between 6am and 6pm.

He is to surrender all travel documents, must not change his residential address and not reoffend while on bail.

Maharaj, 37, is charged with 11 counts of rape. It is alleged that on various occasions between May 17 and June 29 he raped a 16-year-old student.

The case has been adjourned to August 4 for information and disclosures.
