Veterinarians To Adapt To Modern Science

Veterinarians must adapt themselves with modern science and technology, says Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu.
“Veterinarians have primordial role to play in providing effective surveillance of animal diseases and zoonosis throughout the world.
“They are key professionals providing essential services in a range of areas ranging from farm and wild animal practice, working with the food industry on food safety and world health issues,” he said.
Mr Seruiratu said this during the Fiji National University (FNU) open day and World Veterinary celebration at FNU’s Koronivia Campus yesterday.
He also inaugurated the new veterinary laboratory.
“This is why there is constantly a need for compulsory and intensive outgoing professional development programme throughout their careers to ensure they are up to date with modern science and techonology,” he said.
Mr Seruiratu said today new and exciting challenges face the profession.
“The emphasis is shifting away from the traditional role of direct animal health care.
“Society expectations of the vet profession have therefore been changing rapidly,” he said.
