Road Rage’ Incident: A Driver Charged With Manslaughter

Chand allegedly caused death of Dheron Govind at Sakoca Road.
A driver who was arrested after an alleged “road rage” incident in which a man lost his life was yesterday denied bail by the Nasinu Magistrates Court.
Sunil Chand, 21, is charged with manslaughter.
The court heard that on 19 July, Chand allegedly drove a truck on Sakoca Road in a manner which caused serious harm to Dheron Govind Raju, who later died.
Defence lawyer Jiten Reddy had applied for bail on the grounds that the accused is a tertiary student and also worked as a part-time mechanic.
He told the court that Chand came from a poor family and for his safety, he could relocate to Lomaivuna and reside with an uncle.
The case has been transferred to the High Court in Suva, where it will be called on August 5.
