The R.C. Manubhai Suva rugby team have topped the 2016 Skipper Cup competition. This was after they trounced minnows Vatukoula 32-20 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

The Capital City side secured a bonus point win in the process from the four tries they scored to gain 45 points on the points table and secure a home semifinal berth.

What happened:

Suva were on fire from the start and maintained their composure to the end. Meli Rusa scored two tries, Vodafone Flying Fijians halfback Seru Vularika darted in a try and a late penalty try, which saw Suva finish the match on a high note.

Vularika who recently made his international debut with the Vodafone Flying Fijians during this year’s Pacific Nations Cup, was the kingpin in Suva’s play.

He scored a try and kicked three conversions and two penalties.

Vatukoula on the other hand also managed to score four tries- two tries each to Kitione Ratu and winger Lepani Raiyala.

Star turn: Vularika was in top form for Suva and masterminded their moves from the base of the scrum.

Big play: Rusa played a huge role for Suva. He scored two tries and showed his class in the match.

Suva co-coach Akuila Nasi praised his players for the win and calls for support.

“The players played their hearts out in the match. This is a good win for us as we head into the semifinal. We are also calling our fans to come out in numbers and support the team as we host the semifinal.”
