The Land Transport Authority will vigorously clamp down on illegal taxis operators, Naisa Tuinaceva said.

This after he said the Western division was known for being the hub for illegal taxi operation.

“This is because the West is so big and there are a lot of things that are happening there,” Mr Tuinaceva said.

He said on average, up to 10 to 15 drivers Fiji-wide were booked and their vehicles impounded for illegal operation. Most of these bookings were from the West.

“Not only pirate taxis but private cars and so forth that are doing business illegally,” he said.

He reiterated that the authority will not condone such activities.

People are encouraged to report illegal public transport to LTA via free texting code 582 or email to infor@lta.com.fj

Meanwhile, taxi drivers have also been urged to deliver 24-hour service to the public to meet the demand.
