Fijian Fashion Coming Up: French Ambassador

It was a night of glitz and glamour at the Land Transport Authority fashion show in Valelevu on Saturday showcasing the taste of some of our top local designers.

The fashion show was organised by LTA in a bid to raise funds for their queen contestant Ateca Elder’s charity chest for the 60th Vodafone Hibiscus Festival next month.

Local designers such as Ana Rabuka, Moira Solvalu John, Rosie Semisi Emberson and Suva-based boutique outlet Shopaholic Fiji were invited to showcases their pieces, some of which would be worn by Miss LTA.

Chief guest French Ambassador to Fiji Michel Djokovic said Fiji was showing a lot of potential in the fashion world.

“Fiji’s fashion industry is an industry to reckon. It has seen a plethora of designers now surfacing,” Mr Djokovic said.

“Very recently some Fijian stylists were applauded abroad for the originality and quality of their own work during the fashion weeks in Sydney and New York.”

Mr Djokovic added this year’s Hibiscus Festival theme: “Road Safety, It’s Everyone’s Responsibility” underscores the importance of LTA’s work in advocating for road safety in Fiji.

“The advocacy of road safety theme during the upcoming one week festival will definitely maximise this theme throughout the country,” he said.

LTA chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said that the festival’s theme was a golden opportunity for them to increase road safety awareness.

“We are thankful to the Hibiscus committee for coming in and taking up road safety as a theme for this year’s festival.

“We thought this was an opportunity for us to get together and support this as we want to have more campaign on this,” he said.

Mr Tuinaceva said the fashion show also gave them the opportunity to talk about road safety and responsible driving.
