Increasing Interest In Our ICT Sector Noted
Delegates from Australia who are here till tomorrow to explore what Fiji has to offer in the Business Process Outsourcing sector accompanied by local ICT sector stakeholders at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday.

A total of 13 information, communication and technology (ICT)-related projects by Australian citizens or companies have been registered here since 2011.

Investment Fiji chief executive, Godo Müller-Tuet, highlighting this said the projects had a proposed investment value of $10.3 million.

He made these comments while addressing delegates from Australia who are here till tomorrow to explore what Fiji has to offer in the Business Process Outsourcing sector.

Mr Müller-Tuet stressed interest from Australian investors has increased over the years.

But, he said it is imperative Australian investors obtain a strong understanding of the policies in relation to investment approvals.

Overall, Mr Müller-Tuet said during 2015 period, investments from Australia were spread across a number of sectors.

“Services and wholesale and retail accounted for combined 54 per cent followed by investments in tourism sector at 20 per cent,” he said.

“Also Australian companies have shown strong interest in Government projects which reflects Australian investors’ confidence in the Fijian business environment.”

 

ICT sector potential

Mr Müller-Tuet acknowledged the ICT industry is considered a one of the most competitive and dynamic industries in the world.

In saying so, he said Fiji is well-positioned to attract ICT investments, starting from the lower end and moving up the value chain.

“Fiji has managed to secure its position in attracting renowned ICT investors to locate their back offices here,” he said.

“Fiji has managed to secure its position in attracting renowned ICT and BPO investors, including Mindpearl, ANZ, HP, Dell, IBM, Compaq, Acer and Cisco Systems.”
