Labasa women won their first game defeating Seaqaqa 3-1 in the Vodafone U17 national football league at Subrail Park.

The players were selected from secondary schools in Labasa. Coach Rajan Sharma applauded the effort of the players. Labasa led 1-0 at halftime and in second half Seaqaqa pulled one back to level the score.

Tactical changes and substitutions made an impact resulting in Labasa scoring twice.

“The parents, community and some prominent businessmen turned up,” Sharma said.

“The support by parents towards their daughters was tremendous.

“I would also like to thank the Fiji Football Association (northern) development officer Iosefo Vosoboto for his effort, Vodafone for providing sports equipment and officials Karishma Sharma, Rita Lal, Rohini Singh and Taj for their support.”

The competition allows players to get a stint in the district competition in preparation for the 2017 Oceania World Cup U20 qualifiers.
