The mother of Team Fiji men’s football midfielder, Joseph Turagabeci was among the proud parents who were at Nadi International Airport yesterday.

Tina Turagabeci flew in from Auckland, New Zealand, on Sunday to attend the team’s farewell function at the Ba Academy and later to farewell her son.

“I am so happy and humbled for my son’s achievement,” she said.

“He has followed his dreams and is taking it higher. As a family we are here to support him. Joseph is the baby of our family as he is the youngest and we are forever proud of his achievements.”

Young Joseph who plays for Waitakere United FC was drafted into the team last week.

This is a rare scenario, he says, we are not too sure how often we will feature in the Olympic Games, this is a historic ride and I thank all those that supported the team.

“We need the nation’s prayers and their diligent support to come our way,” he added.

Tina said she has taken an advance day’s leave from work only to watch her son and the national football team on TV in their opening clash against South Korea on August 4.

“I won’t be able to go to Rio but I will watch my son play his first match on TV and I have taken a day-off well ahead of time for that.”

Tina took the next flight back to Auckland, as soon as team flew out of the country.
