The iTaukei Land Trust Board (iTLTB) has confirmed that the alleged assault of their official on a customer in the North is being investigated.

Necessary action would be taken against the officer in question if found guilty said deputy general manager operations Solomone Nata in an interview.

In light of this, an urgent call for professionalism has been made to iTLTB officials

Mr Nata said all iTLTB officials should have compassion and respect when dealing with clients.

“We’ve just had a staff meeting…and I spoke very strongly about the attitude of the staff and how we treat and approach our customers,” Mr Nata said.

“Some of them face really difficult conditions, in terms of where they live and when they come to us, they look for some sort of satisfaction.

“So we need to consider these kinds of things when dealing with them.”

He said professionalism was very important when they were conducting company-related businesses.

Mr Nata’s advice came when Mir Wati of Savulutu, Seaqaqa brought the matter before the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during the sugar consultations at Seaqaqa on Wednesday.

Ms Wati alleged she was physically abused by an iTLTB officer four months ago in her home.

She said was pushed and hit on her back by the officer who later told her that he did not know who the Prime Minister was.

The officer’s remarks came after she said she would raise the issue with the Prime Minister.

Mr Nata said this kind of behaviour was unacceptable from their staff members.

“We do not condone this kind of conduct from our staff using that kind of language especially when the Prime Minister is our chairperson and also the Minister for iTaukei Affairs,” he said.
