The iTaukei Land Trust Board (iTLTB) is working on speeding up its processes and at the same time was calling on customers and tenants for support as well.

iTLTB deputy general manager operations Solomone Nata said this was a part of their goal to efficiently serve customers.

“We are working really hard to address these issues and we have project officers right now in all the regions trying to assist in the processing of these cases,” Mr Nata said.

“We are targeting to complete vetting processes within four to six months and we are working very hard to achieve this.”

He said while iTLTB was looking at improving its services they were calling on applicants to also play their part.

“We have some people to assist, but there are some issues that the applicants should understand like if you don’t submit all requirements then that could cause a delay in the process,” Mr Nata said.

“For instance, there are over 300 tenants all over Fiji whose leases are about to expire and despite notifying them, they still have not applied for a lease renewal.

“We are doing our best and are determined to improve but they also need to play their part, so we could efficiently attend to their needs, it is a two-way street.”

He added that applicants needed to meet the criteria when applying for a new lease or lease renewal.

Mr Nata said two of these requirements while applying for lease renewals were for farmers to be up-to-date with their rent.

Secondly, if they were applying for agricultural leases then they needed to be cultivating the land.
