Our Team Fiji men’s football team were given military escort to their hotel when they arrived in Salvador, Brazil. This was after a 38-hour long flight from Fiji.

Dubbed as the underdogs of the Rio Olympic football competition the Roy Krishna captained- side were welcomed by the Brazilians on arrival.

“It was an overwhelming experience,” vice-captain and goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau told Fiji FA Media.

“It was a blessing as well especially to be surrounded by a bunch of humble lads.”

The team have settled in well at the Grand Hotel Stella Maris Resort.

 

TRAINING

Tamanisau said they went through their training sessions yesterday and everything is going as planned.

“We are all good here in Brazil,” the former United Nations peacekeeper said. “The boys are adjusting well to the environment here. “It is just like back home but it is bit hot compared to Fiji.”

He said the players are adapting to the time change and all are looking forward to their opening match against South Korea on August 4.

“We had some difficulties because of jetlag but we are focused at training and looking forward to our first match.”

Tamanisau said they aware that every match would be tough but they would do their best to be competitive.

“We will give our all and as a team we will play and make our country proud.”

PRAY FOR US

Tamanisau said what they need is the support and blessing from the people of Fiji. “We need everyone’s prayers and support from back home to do wonders here,” he added.

The Fijians are pooled with South Korea, Mexico and Germany.
