Suva 10-8 Nadi

Suva are through to the final of the Skipper Cup Under-20 competition after edging out Red Brick Nadi 10-8 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva last night.

 

What happened?

It was a physical game from the start with Nadi having more territorial advantage. It took time for Suva to settle down, apply pressure earning a penalty converted by Jone Manu.

 

Halftime: Suva 3-0 Nadi

Suva came close on a number of occasions to score but the Nadi defence stood firm. Nadi tried hard to keep the Suva attackers at bay but  Suva’s Semisi Matawalu managed to beat three defenders to score the first try of the game which was converted, 10-0.

Basic mistakes from Nadi prevented them from maintaining possession as Suva defended well. Nadi’s Kelemedi Navucu closed the gap with a penalty, 10-3. Manasa Bari scored Nadi’s try but the conversion was not successful, 10-8.

 

Big Play: Nadi team were terrific in defence.

 

Star turn: Suva’s Semisi Matawalu scored the try that mattered and won the man-of-the- match award.

Nadi U20 manager Lasaro Rabaka, “Suva capitalised on our mistakes and we had to play catch-up rugby. But I’m happy with the boys’ performance, congratulations to Suva.”

RCM Suva coach Sakuisa Korobiyau, “It is a relief to know we’ve made it to the final. Nadi put up a really good performance and we take our hats off to them. We really want to face Nadroga in the final.”
