Being committed to the task at hand regardless of the long hours will one day be rewarded, United Kingdom scholarship recipient Mereoni Ketewai said.

The 29-year-old Fijian is the second of the 16 scholars from the Pacific to receive the UK scholarship.

“I’m so excited and thankful that my dedication to my work has paid off,” Ms Ketewai said.

Ms Ketewai will study for an MSc in Crisis and Disaster Management at the University of Portsmouth in UK for a year.

The Chevening Scholarships is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme aimed at future leaders.

Ms Ketewai is currently working as the Disaster Risk Management Specialist and country manager, and under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) she is working as the national consultant on a project – Applying Space Based Technology (SBT) and ICT in Disaster Resilience.

She hopes to return and contribute to the NDMO.

She leaves for the UK next month.

Applications for the 2017-2018 scholarships will open on 8 August.
