All-Time top try-scorer in the World Sevens Series and Kenya rugby 7s winger Collins Injera believes their 30-7 win over Fiji at the Singapore Sevens has boosted their morale prior to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Injera said defeating Fiji in the Singapore Sevens was a breakthrough moment.

“I think it was a good thing to win one of those tournaments in the series,”Injera told me in the Rio Olympics Games village yesterday.

“I think that gives us a little bit of boost in terms of morale and knowing what to do in tournaments.

“There is so much pressure but all I can say is that we want to come here and represent our country well and play the sport that we all love to play.”

The Kenyans arrived in Rio last week and are grouped alongside New Zealand, Great Britain and Japan in Pool C and Injera said they would be focussing on one game at a time.

“The Olympics is quite interesting, just coming down here is a big thing and we are all looking forward to the challenge,”he said.

“We will see how it goes, we will take each game at a time as we build on the momentum in the tournament.”

The Kenyans play Great Britain in their first pool match on August 10 at 4am (FJ Time).

Injera has scored  235 tries in the World Sevens Series ahead of Santiago Gomez Cora of Argentina (230) and Ben Gollings (220).
