Vodafone Fiji provided $36,000 for the new B –Division rugby competition previously called the B-Division tournament.

Seven teams will take part in the Vodafone Rugby Trophy competition which starts on Saturday at Prince Charles Park, Nadi and Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

$4000 will be given to each team to help with preparations while $5000 will be given to the winner and $3000 to the runner-up.

The seven teams are Navosa, Ba, Nanukuloa and Nadroga who are featured in the West Pool while Rewa, Northern Bulls, Cakaudrove and Serua are in the East Pool.

Vodafone Fiji chief marketing officer Rajnesh Prasad said they are proud to be involved in developing, supporting rugby in the country.

“This is about supporting rugby to ensure that heroes and household names are born out of the grass roots that is available throughout the country.

“There have been a few big names that have come out of the grass root programmes like Marika Vunibaka, Pio Tuwai and Joeli Veitayaki to name a few.

“We are proud to be a part of this initiative to ensure that we develop rugby at the grass-root level.

“We thank all the teams that are taking part in this competition.

Fiji Rugby chief executive officer John O’Connor also commended the teams for participating in the competition despite the effects of Tropical Cyclone Winston and thanked Vodafone for their contribution.

“I thank the seven teams and also Vodafone for their sponsorship of the tournament and facilitating the jerseys and cash components to assist the teams this year.”
