Abortion Accused Bail Ruling On Thursday

Devi, 56, allegedly conducted abortion on woman, 22.
A 56-year-old woman charged with abortion will have her bail ruling on Thursday.
The Police prosecutor had objected to bail on the grounds that it was a case of interest and it needed to be transferred to the High Court in Suva.
It is alleged that Vinita Devi allegedly conducted an abortion on a 22-year-old woman. Devi appeared before Magistrate Vandhana Lal yesterday at the Nausori Magistrates Court. Particulars of the alleged offense were not read out in court.
Defence lawyer Nacani Bulisea told the court that Devi has an eight-year-old daughter and was willing to be on strict bail conditions. Devi has been remanded in Police custody. Court has been adjourned to August 4.
