Serua Rugby Union will use the Vodafone Rugby Trophy competition as a platform to develop and strengthen their club games.

Union patron Aseri Latianara said their goal since last year to build their teams to compete at the highest level.

“This year we want to regroup and bring Serua to another level,”Latianara said.

“We faced a lot of difficulties surviving due to the lack of funding and miscommunication between players and management.

“But we need to fork money from our own pockets and the players know that we need to sacrifice this year.

“Almost all the provinces in Fiji participate in the major division so we want Serua to be up there with those teams.

“I believe this competition will give us the opportunity to build Serua up again, winning would mean a lot to us but we are taking it slowly.”

With sports being a platform to educate and teach players discipline on and off the field, Latianara said they are trying to make rugby relevant in Serua again.

“Rugby is good for the youths and we have been attracting a lot of boys to the sport which in turn keeps them busy

“So taking part in the competition means a lot us as a province.”
