It was a rewarding decision for mum Rosemary Devi to return to school after 15 years.

Devi was one of 10 housekeeping and accommodation services students who graduated with a Certificate in Attainment at the National Training and Productivity Centre.

The 44-year-old of Drasa-Vitogo in Lautoka said: “I used to read in the newspapers that tourism was providing more employment opportunity in the country.”

After staying at home for a while she asked her husband to attend a course at FNU. He agreed and financed her study.

“I told him I want to do something that suits my age and nothing from the field of work I have already done before and he agreed,” Ms Devi said.

The mother of one is also studying automotive at FNU and is scheduled to graduate in December.

“It was hard at first after coming to school but I will never regret this choice, and I encourage mums who are out there to come out and find a course that’s suitable for them and do it.”

Tourism Council of Nadi chairman Chandar Prakash who is also a businessman graduated in Hospitality Management.

“This was my second chance to study, during the time to study I ventured into something else, but we all need qualification to be on par with the rest of society,” he said.
