Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens winger Samisoni Viriviri is now a proud dad. This was after his wife Elenoa gave birth to a healthy baby girl at the Nadi Hospital on Tuesday.

The sevens speedster was still in Santiago, Chile when Elenoa was taken to hospital and he was closely monitoring her condition.

“I was really excited to see our baby,” Elenoa told SUNsports yesterday as she cuddled her bundle of joy.

She said they had nicknamed her Baby Rio after she delivered at 4.55pm on Tuesday.

“Our baby is named after Sami’s mum Vikaili Qili Viriviri Nasagavesi,” Elenoa said.

“We were over the moon as it was unexpected. We thought I would give birth towards the end of the month but we did not expect it to be early. I think it is all about this Olympic excitement in Rio.”

She said after giving birth her husband would now be much relaxed and psyched up for the big task that is ahead of him.

The couple got married in Nadi late last month before the team flew out to Chile. In an earlier interview Viriviri said he ha wanted to make sure that everything was taken care off before he leaves.

“We spoke with Sami for one hour and he was just so excited, I could see his face blushing in joy. He would feel more relaxed now,” Elenoa added.

Viriviri’s mother-in-law Litiana Tuidraki who resides in Santa Rosa, San Francisco, said she was elated with the news.

“I’m grateful that Samisoni and Elenoa’s princess has arrived just before her dad plays in Rio. It will be something that Sami will be playing so hard for because of the gift that he has been bestowed with,” she said.
