Fijian Detained For Drug Charges: High Commission
Locked up in Brisbane, Australia, Lasarusa Senitoarau.

A 44-year-old Fijian national is currently detained at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre in Brisbane, Australia, for alleged drug related charges.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said yesterday the Fijian High Commission in Canberra had been informed by the Australian Federal Police in July 1 last year.

It is alleged that Lasarusa Senitoarau was a crew member of the Capitaine Fearne and was arrested the night before July 1 last year when the ship docked in Brisbane.

An official from Neptune Pacific also confirmed that the Fijian national was an employee of their company until July last year and he was not in a position to release any further information on him.

Ratu Inoke said Senitoarau was represented by Australian Legal Aid lawyers.

“Australian Federal Police had informed the High Commission that the Fijian national is currently in custody over drug possession charges,” he said.

Ratu Inoke said the Fijian High Commission in Canberra had been advised by Australian Federal Police that under Australian privacy laws no more information regarding the accused would be released.

He said the Commission had been advised that any queries should be directed to the Legal Aid Office that was representing Senitoarau.
