The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) continues its footpath upgrading works around the country, aimed at improving pedestrian access and safety.

Authority’s chief executive officer, John Hutchinson, said they were upgrading various footpath sections in Suva, Raiwaqa, Nabua, Raiwai, Nausori, Nasinu, Lami, Sigatoka, Lautoka and Ba.

The most recent is the construction and upgrade to 20 sites in a capital project contract awarded to Hot Springs Hire Services Limited.

“The total contract value of approximately FJ$953k of the 20 sites will include excavation and removal of existing concrete footpath and driveway, preparing of footpath subgrade and base-course and construction of new concrete footpath and driveways,” he said.

Mr Hutchinson said the contractor was working on schedule and had already completed work on some of the sites in Nausori, Nabua and Nasinu.

“FRA wishes to thank the public for their patience and for allowing our contractor the room to safely carry on with the work,” Mr Hutchinson said.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2016.
