A team of four junior golfers will depart for  New Caledonia today to compete in the South Pacific Junior Open in Noumea.

They are Prashal Chand, 14 of Swami Vivekananda College), Aryan Kumar, 14 of Suva, Shakil Pillay, 11, of Drasa Avenue Primary and Emanuel Liuta, 13 of Namaka Public School.

National coach David Roche said it was a joint initiative of Golf Fiji and the Oceania Golf School in ensuring that local junior golfers are also given exposure to international competition.

“The young golfers have been working under the Oceania Golf School for few years now and Golf Fiji is really supportive,” Roche said.

Oceania Golf School manager Johanna Luita said the golfers are looking forward to the event.

“Countries from the South Pacific will be competing as well and the event is organised by the League of Golf New Caledonia,” she said.

The tournament is scheduled for August 6-10.
