Give me my mountain and I will conquer it, says Kiribati’s champion weightlifter David Katoatau.

Katoatau is going to be Kiribati flag bearer at today’s Rio Olympics opening ceremony and feels honoured to be given the honours.

“I’m excited to represent my country and my people back home,” he told SUNsports yesterday.

“They are proud of me to be here and also I feel honoured to carry my country’s flag, it’s going to be a good experience.

“My people having high hopes on me and I’m ready to go out there and do my country proud.”

The 32-year-old from Nonouti village in Kiribati is taking part in the men’s weightlifting and is in the 105 kilogramme. “I have completed all phases of my preparation and I have been working hard.

“I know I will face tough opponents from the European countries but give me my mountain I’m ready to conquer it,” he added.
