Papua New Guinea’s champion swimmer Ryan Pini is confident of achieving positive results in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Pini who is dubbed PNG’s ‘Golden Fish’ is also the country’s flag bearer in today’s opening ceremony. The men’s 100m butterfly swimmer was at the Pacific flag bearers’ announcement event yesterday.

“I’m really enjoying the atmosphere here in Rio,” he said.

“Today having all the Pacific teams together just added another different atmosphere.

“We got to come out and explore Rio a bit and coming together as Pacific brothers and sisters is really good.”

With less than six days for the 34-year-old to compete he is excited to compete in the world’s biggest sporting spectacle.

“Last few months we have been having sleepless nights as I prepare for the competition and I look forward to the start of competition.”

Pini calls on his PNG fans for support.

“We are doing the best we can and we are looking forward to the next couple of days, we just need your support,” he added.
