The Fijian weightlifters and medal hopefuls have finished their preparations and are eager to take on the best at the 2016 Olympic Game

Manueli Tulo who has been training at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia has arrived in Brazil and will compete in the men’s 56kg division set for next Monday, 1am (local time). Apolonia Vaivai takes the stage in the womens 69kg next Thursday, 3.30am (local time).

Section manager Atma Maharaj told SUNsports yesterday that the weightlifters were looking fine and are hoping for the best.

“Both our lifters have trained so well even here they are enjoying the atmosphere and the facilities,” he said.

“They have done all that they could in training and are now focused on their participation. They are both in good shape and we are just calling for support from our people back home and those that are here.”

When approached, Vaivai said she is adamant of doing well.

“I thank God for bringing me this far and I just can’t wait to compete,” she added.
