The Team Fiji contingent along with other Pacific island nations, were officially welcomed at the Pacific House in Botafogo, Brazil yesterday.

A rainbow of colours hovered above the Pacific House as the Oceania National Olympic Committees hosted the Pacific Flag Bearers announcement event.

Team Fiji chef de mission Cathy Wong acknowledged the support of Fijian fans.

“Team Fiji is ready to go,” she told SUNsports yesterday.

“Teams are all in participation mode and just being here at the Pacific House is just a blessing to us.

“We are ready to deliver and we want to thank all the support that we have been getting from home and please, to the people of Fiji, do continue with your support.”

Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee president Joe Rodan who had just arrived in Rio was delighted with the Brazilian reception.

“Everything that we heard about Rio when we  were in Fiji is different to what we are seeing here. Everything here is great. Team Fiji has settled in well and we are looking forward to the games.

“Being in this Pacific House makes you feel welcomed, its good coming here and experiencing the life here,” Rodan said.

Weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai carried the Fijian flag on behalf of flag bearer Osea Kolinisau.

The day was filled with fun as teams enjoyed the occasion in true Pacific style.
