Bainimarama Congratulates New President Of Peru

The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, has congratulated Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on his recent appointment as the President of the Republic of Peru.
In his message, Mr Bainimarama welcomed his appointment adding that he looked forward to working with him to strengthen bilateral relations with Peru.
“I have the honour to convey to you the warmest congratulations and best wishes of the Fijian Government and Fijian people on your appointment as President of the Republic of Peru. We wish you every success and look forward to working with you to advance our mutual interests,” he said.
“I note with great interest your plans to modernise your nation and reduce poverty through such measures as improving access to water, education and health care, boosting public infrastructure and fighting corruption.
“We are pursuing the same agenda here in Fiji and are keen to explore avenues of future co-operation in these areas, as well as strengthening our bilateral ties generally.”
The Prime Minister called on President Kuczynski for his support in addressing the threat posed to Pacific Island nations as a result of climate change.
“I also seek your support for Fiji and the other Pacific Island nations as we continue to highlight the grave threat posed to us by the extreme weather events and rising sea levels caused by climate change. “While we regard the Paris Agreement capping global warming at 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels as an important first step, we are pressing for this to be lowered to 1.5 degrees to increase our chances of survival,” he said in his message.
