Three times Olympian and our national archery rep Robert Elder scored his personal best during the first round of the individual men’s ranking event yesterday.

Out of the 64 participants, Elder managed to secure the 56th position with a total score of 635 points. He was impressed following his performance.

“It was a lovely day today (yesterday) I got a personal best in my shoot being my third Olympic Games I’m happy with my ranking,” he said.

“There’s a lot of room for improvement. I could have done better there were couple of arrows which I dropped low, my first arrow I guess I was not settled enough seeing my first arrow went off. My coach Yep Lee Chong and I are both happy with my score and the competition was not easy.”

Elder will now progress through to the elimination rounds on Monday.

“I will be looking forward to that and so far the weather is great it just feel like I’m shooting at home.”

Meanwhile, Woojin Kim of South Korea set a new world record with 700 points to finish in first place ahead of Brady Ellison of USA who finished second with 690 points.
