The Fiji Museum is calling on interested individuals and volunteers to assist the iconic site in engaging with communities.

Fiji Museum director Adi Meretui Ratunabuabua said they were looking for volunteers to join the revamped Friends of the Fiji Museum group to help out on various events such as their monthly open days.

“Sometimes when the schools come in, there’s so many children so we need volunteers especially for members who are retired or young volunteers maybe unemployed or interested to do something with their time,” she said.

Adi Meretui said this was part of their community engagement to draw more interest from people in knowing their culture heritage.

“We really want people to engage with their culture and heritage.

“We’ve got the Chinese, Rotuman, Rabi cultural exhibitions collections and it’s not just iTaukei.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Museum is also gearing up for the launching of their online masi exhibition later this year.

The exhibition is expected to draw a lot of attention from Fijians living overseas in knowing more about masi making.

Since its inception in 1955, the Fiji Museum has expanded over the years with new art and gallery exhibitions. This includes archaeological material dating back 3700 years ago representing both Fiji’s indigenous inhabitants its diverse communities.
