Rain over the past three days has given hope of better and fresher yields to a Nadi farmer.

Shiv Sharan Dass said throughout the long dry period he had been using a water pump to water his vegetables. But now he has been relieved because of the wet weather.

This is an opportune time for Mr Dass to plant vegetables again as he said land became moist and softer.

“My big farm used to be very dry and it was hard for me to water the vegetables daily. The land will soften now as well and it will be easier for me to plant more veggies,” he said.

Mr Dass sells his produce along the Nadi back road and supplies his vegetables to Nadi market vendors.

Meanwhile, rain is expected for the next two days as occasional rains which can be heavy at times has been forecasted by the Fiji Meteorological Service.

The Fiji Meteorological Service Director, Ravind Kumar says a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain currently lies slow moving over Fiji and this was the reason why the whole of Fiji has been experiencing rain since Saturday afternoon.

“The trough is expected to remain slow moving over Fiji till late on Tuesday. It will eventually weaken and move to the east of Fiji later on Tuesday as a southerly wind flow extends onto the group from the south,” Mr Kumar said.
