Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau yesterday said complaints raised with his ministry about security firms would have been resolved had proprietors been present.

“It would have been appropriate if employers were present at the public consultation so that when their employees raise their concern to us, the employer can justify his or her stand,” he said.

“It would be nice if we had two way conversations so that matters can be resolved immediately.

“Unfortunately, there are not many present,” he said of employers.

Mr Koroilavesau who held the public consultation at the Labasa Civic Centre said there had been lot of complaints about security companies from Labasa concerning how employers treated their employees and not giving overtime pay.

“I receive all the complaints that come to my ministry,” Mr Koroilavesau said.

“From Labasa there has been lot of complains about security firms. We have managed to resolve some issues.”

Mr Koroilavesau and his team would continue with the public consultations at different locations in the Northern Division this week.
