Team Fiji’s weightlifter Manueli Tulo finished 13th in the men’s 56kg category yesterday.

The powerful Levuka native lifted 106kg in the snatch, 136kg in the clean and jerk collecting a total of 242kg which was also his new personal best.

Tulo also finished in 13th place during the 2012 London Olympics where he lifted a total of 233kg. In the Oceania Weightlifting Championship he lifted 231kg. Section manager Atma Maharaj was impressed on how Tulo took up the challenge.

“In the snatch he also lifted 109kg in his last attempt, he was there holding onto the bar but his leg slipped. In the clean and jerk he also lifted 139kg but he was anxious so he couldn’t control the weight and dropped it. He looked very, very strong, I haven’t seen him compete positively and we are very impressed,” Maharaj said.

Meanwhile, weightlifter and bronze medal hopeful Apolonia Vaivai competes in the 69kg category tomorrow.
