Naitasiri North defied all odds to take part in the 2016 Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby competition.

Last year Naitasiri North fielded teams for all grades from 10 schools but this year only two schools managed to put together the Under-13 and U14 teams.

Team manager Josua Takala said most of the schools pulled out because of the less preparation time and examinations.

“Normally we would have a lot of schools who would make up all the grades but it’s not the case this year,” Takala said.

“We are happy we managed to represent Naitasiri North in two grades.

“Tournaments such as the Kaji rugby is a good way for us to bring out the talents in our young rugby players.”

As teachers, he said they needed to educate our children in all aspects of education and not just give them books, but actually take them out and let them compete.

“Some may excel inside the classroom and some might excel on the field so we really need to get them involved because it helps develop them also and we need to give them that opportunity,” he said.
