‘We’ve Failed In Our Attacking Game’

The Team Fiji women’s rugby sevens side have lost out on the medal race for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games after going down to Great Britain 7-26 at Deodoro Stadium, Rio de Janeiro yesterday.

The Chris Cracknell-coached side booked their quarterfinal spot after they thrashed Colombia in their final pool match 36-0 to come in second to Australia.

Fiji women’s captain Ana Maria Roqica said, they just failed to attack against Great Britain.

“We did well in our defence but our attacking game was not good but we will move on from here and focus on what’s in front of us,” she said.

Great Britain had a strong start in the first 17 seconds of the game when Abbie Brown received the ball direct from the kick-off to run in a try as the led 7-0.

The Fijians levelled the score after a wonderful attacking game seeing Litia Naiqato diving in to score as Lavenia Tinai was successful with the conversion. But that was as close as they came to threatening an upset win with Alice Richardson, Joanne Watmore and Brown all touching down to secure the win for Great Britain.
