Tailevu South caused one of the biggest upsets in the Under-11 grade beating Suva Falcons 7-6 in the Punjas/Digicel Fiji Primary School Netball competition at the National Netball Centre yesterday.

It was a proud moment for the team who have been together for three years.

Coach Asenaca Tukai was overjoyed with the achievement and they are looking forward to win the competition this year.

“We have put in a lot of hard work and effort into preparing our team for the competition,” Tukai said.

“The Tailevu Primary Schools Netters Association, teachers as well as the students sacrificed everything for this tournament.

“We know Suva is the defending champions for the U11 grade and we want to change that this year.

“Last year we went up to the Premier quarterfinals but this year we are aiming for the Cup and take it back to Tailevu.”

Beating Suva has boosted the team as they have qualified for the Tier One Cup quarterfinals which Tukai said would be a dream come true if they made it all the way to the top.

“To put it simply, a win would mean everything in the world to us, qualifying for the quarters and beating Suva has really given the girls a boost,” she said.

“We want our girls to gain a lot of experience and we are so thankful to the tournament organisers for having such a good tournament.”
