Grieving Father Mourns Son’s Death

Who will take care of me now? That was the only question asked by the emotional 76-year-old Mohammad Rafiq after he was told of his son’s death yesterday morning.
His son, Mohammad Jamal died in an early car accident while heading towards Lautoka with his wife. It is understood an oncoming vehicle veered onto their lane resulting in a head on fatal collision.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro in a press release stated the incident occurred at around 7am yesterday along the Kings Road, near Tavarau, Ba.
“A 51-year-old farmer of Vatia, Ba died after the vehicle he was driving collided head on with another vehicle driven by a 42-year-old of Lautoka.”
It was also alleged the driver of the vehicle which allegedly caused the accident was under the influence of alcohol and was taken in custody at Ba Police Station.
Mr Jamal is survived by his sick father, three children and wife who are devastated by his sudden loss.
His neighbour, Husun Jaan, told Fiji Sun that Mr Jamal’s father has a kidney problem and is on dialysis.
“The only person who was responsible for cleaning up his urine bag was Mr Jamal and this (yesterday) morning was the last time for him to do that before Mr Jamal took his wife to Lautoka hospital for her check up,” Ms Jaan said.
Mr Rafiq only wished if he had opened his eyes to see his son around him for one last time.
“But it had been only two months the family was recovering from the death of Mr Jamal’s mother,” said grieving Mr Rafiq.
Ms Jaan said the eldest son of Mr Jamal who lives in New Zealand was on his way to Fiji along with other family members for his father’s funeral.
The wife of the deceased remains admitted at the hospital injured.
Meanwhile, two other separate cases of road accidents occurred in Lautoka since Wednesday, one in Velovelo and another in Lovu.
According to the Police, road death toll now stands at 35 compared to 36 for the same period last year.
