Just like many careers, having an entrepreneurial heart and a passion for cooking are ingredients to succeed in the business world.

The comment was made by 65-year-old Jessy Young who has been in the catering business for more than 30 years.

Ms Young is one of the many vendors at the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival this year who took part in trading from a stall for the last four years.

She said her sons have shared the same passion for cooking and were following in her footsteps of running a catering business.

“I used to take my sons with me to catering functions when they were growing up so I think that’s where they developed the same interest,” Ms Young said.

She said catering was a form of survival to get by when she was in high school to help her younger siblings.

“I came from a broken family, there were 10 of us in the family and being the third eldest, I had to find a way to help my siblings,” she said.

She said having a catering business meant building up your client network and managing the financial side in the process.

Ms Young hopes to win the Vodafone best hygiene stall again for a third win after clinching the title twice already.
