The Women in Business yesterday invited Government’s A-Team of women Permanent Secretaries during their network session in a bid to inspire and motivate its members.

Permanent Secretary for Economy Makareta Konrote, Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports Alison Burchell, Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Bernadette Welch, and Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Salaseini Serulagilagi Daunabuna shared their stories of success to the group.

President Nur Bano Ali outlined the need for such role models to share and motivate other women from different business backgrounds.

“The feedbacks we are getting from the participants has been great. They feel empowered and motivated,” Ms Ali said.

“There was a shortage of women leaders in Fiji and it can be seen that slowly, by means of motivational talks like we had today, we have noticed more women leaders emerging.”

She said there was still a need for more women leaders despite women holding key positions in the business sectors.

“The main objective for Women in Business is to promote women leadership and that is what we are trying to do,” Ms Ali said.

“Getting motivational speakers like the four permanent secretaries we had is a plus for these ladies.

“They will definitely get motivated by listening to their life struggles and how they managed and coped with different scenarios and still made their way to top positions.

“Motivated women will therefore go out and showcase leadership skills in different circumstances which will showcase a very holistic approach to getting more women leaders in Fiji.”
