Fiji winning its first ever gold medal after our rugby sevens team beat Great Britain 43-7 in the final in Deodoro Stadium in Rio de Janeiro at the Olympics was considered an inspirational one.

This was the comment made by fan, Linda Tabuya who watched the finals on big screen at the ANZ Stadium with about six thousand fans who turned up to witness the historic moment for Fiji.

“I’m speechless, I’ve been out here with my (cheering) squad since 8.30am and we are so proud of Ben and the boys,” she said.

“This win is considered an inspirational one especially for our children who are all participating in sports competitions this weekend.

“This is a big boost for students and the entire nation as a whole. What a comeback after Cyclone Winston!”

Ms Tabuya was thankful to the Fiji Sports Council for allowing the nation to come together and cheer on the boys for an unforgettable experience at the stadium.

“The  prayers of the nation, fans around the world was with them, the team was on fire and Ben did his magic,” she said.

“Rugby is definitely the sport that brings this country together and what a memory to cherish for a lifetime.”
